Definition[1]
:
Bhāvaviveka (c.490-570). A noted Indian Madhyamaka philosopher, also known as Bhavya, who wrote a number of important works, including the Tarka-jvālā, refuting other contemporary Buddhist and non-Buddhist doctrines. His method of argumentation is characterized by the use of standard syllogisms (svatantra) derived from the Buddhist school of logic in contrast to the reductio ad absurdum (prasaṇga) method of argument favoured by the later philosopher Candrakīrti.
