大衣即僧伽梨,有上、中、下三位,各由其割截之條數,復分為九種。即上僧伽梨(四長一短)分上二十五條、中二十三條、下二十一條;中僧伽梨(三長一短)分上十九條、中十七條、下十五條;下僧伽梨(二長一短)分上十三條、中十一條、下九條。其中,上上品之二十五條、下上品之十三條及下下品之九條為後世最通行者。〔薩婆多毘尼毘婆沙卷四〕

The 僧伽梨 saṇghāṭī. There are nine grades of the monk's patch robe; the three lowest ranks have 9, 11, and 13 patches, two long patches to one short one; the three middle 15, 17, 19, three long to one short; and the three superior 21, 23, 25, four long to one short.

(衣服)大衣即僧伽梨有三位九品之別。薩婆多毘尼毘婆沙四曰:「又僧伽梨,下九條,中十一條,上十三條;中僧伽梨,下十五條,中十七條,上十九條;上僧伽梨,下二十一條,中二十三條,上二十五條。下僧伽梨二長一短,中僧伽梨三長一短,上僧伽梨四長一短。」古來所通行者其間上上品之二十五條,下上品之十三條及下下品之九條衣也。
