The four dharmadhātus, or four realms of reality as explicated by the masters of the Huayan school: (1) shi fajie 事法界 the realm of individual phenomena; (2) li fajie 理法界 the realm of the one principle (śūnyatā); (3) lishi wuai fajie 理事無礙法界 the realm of non-obstruction between principle and phenomena; (4) shishi wuai fajie 事事無礙法界 the realm of non-obstruction between phenomena.

華嚴宗所立，即事法界、理法界、理事無礙法界、事事無礙法界。世間萬法差別之相，各有其不同，不能混淆，名事法界；真如平等的理體，為萬法所依，名理法界；真如能生萬法，故萬法即是真如，理體事相，互融互具，無礙通達，理即是事，事即是理，名理事無礙法界；諸法互攝，重重無盡，不相妨礙，一多相即，大小互容，舉一全收，具足相應，名事事無礙法界。

四法界===﹝出華嚴法界觀﹞

法界者，一切眾生身心之本體也。法，軌則也，界有性、分二義。若約事說，界即是分義，謂隨事分別故也；若約理說，界即是性義，謂諸法性不能變易故也。以此性、分互相交絡，則成理事無礙法界。以理融事，一一融通，則成事事無礙法界也。

〔一、事法界〕，謂諸眾生色心等法，一一差別，各有分齊，故名事法界。（分齊者，限量也。）

〔二、理法界〕，謂諸眾生色心等法，雖有差別，而同一體性，故名理法界。

〔三、理事無礙法界〕，謂理由事顯，事攬理成，理事互融，故名理事無礙法界。

〔四、事事無礙法界〕，謂一切分齊事法，稱性融通，一多相即，大小互容，重重無盡，故名事事無礙法界。
