The four dharmadhātus, or four realms of reality as explicated by the masters of the Huayan school: (1) shi fajie 事法界 the realm of individual phenomena; (2) li fajie 理法界 the realm of the one principle (śūnyatā); (3) lishi wuai fajie 理事無礙法界 the realm of non-obstruction between principle and phenomena; (4) shishi wuai fajie 事事無礙法界 the realm of non-obstruction between phenomena.

華嚴宗所立,即事法界、理法界、理事無礙法界、事事無礙法界。世間萬法差別之相,各有其不同,不能混淆,名事法界;真如平等的理體,為萬法所依,名理法界;真如能生萬法,故萬法即是真如,理體事相,互融互具,無礙通達,理即是事,事即是理,名理事無礙法界;諸法互攝,重重無盡,不相妨礙,一多相即,大小互容,舉一全收,具足相應,名事事無礙法界。

四法界===﹝出華嚴法界觀﹞

法界者,一切眾生身心之本體也。法,軌則也,界有性、分二義。若約事說,界即是分義,謂隨事分別故也;若約理說,界即是性義,謂諸法性不能變易故也。以此性、分互相交絡,則成理事無礙法界。以理融事,一一融通,則成事事無礙法界也。

〔一、事法界〕,謂諸眾生色心等法,一一差別,各有分齊,故名事法界。(分齊者,限量也。)

〔二、理法界〕,謂諸眾生色心等法,雖有差別,而同一體性,故名理法界。

〔三、理事無礙法界〕,謂理由事顯,事攬理成,理事互融,故名理事無礙法界。

〔四、事事無礙法界〕,謂一切分齊事法,稱性融通,一多相即,大小互容,重重無盡,故名事事無礙法界。
