saindhava, 先陀婆 rock-salt, but intp. as salt, water, a utensil, and a horse, the four necessaries, i. e. water for washing, salt for food, a vessel to contain it, and a horse for progress; also called 四實.

梵語 saindhava。音譯作先陀婆。又作四實。原為產於印度河畔之鹽,後轉釋其義,而指鹽、器、水、馬等四物,並用以比喻如來密語甚深難解。〔南本大般涅槃經卷九、摩訶止觀卷二〕(參閱「一名四實」33)

四達===(名數)又云一名四實,謂於先陀婆Saindhava之一語,含鹽水器馬之四實也。,涅槃經九曰:「如來密語甚深難解,譬如大王告諸群臣先陀婆來。先陀婆者,一名四實:一者鹽,二者器,三者水,四者馬。如是四法皆同此名。」止觀二曰:「大經云:鹽水器馬,一名四實。智臣善知,謂洗時奉水,食時奉鹽,飲時奉器,游時奉馬。王皆但云先陀婆來。」
